This project will help develop interest in Canada\u2019s space workforce by giving students the experience, knowledge, and skills to become sought-after candidates for positions in\u00a0Canada\u2019s\u00a0space sector.<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To this end, the primary\u00a0objective\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0MANTIS project\u00a0is to\u00a0launch\u00a0a satellite into\u00a0low Earth\u00a0orbit\u00a0to perform climate research.\u00a0MANTIS is\u00a0being\u00a0designed\u00a0to\u00a0monitor\u00a0natural phenomenon\u00a0that\u00a0are\u00a0heavily\u00a0impacted\u00a0by climate\u00a0change.\u00a0The MANTIS\u00a0project will\u00a0monitor\u00a0harmful\u00a0algal blooms (a biological\u00a0phenomenon\u00a0which can release toxins into\u00a0rivers, lakes, and oceans).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Telemetry\u00a0Beacon<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">MANTIS will boast a generic digital beacon broadcasting telemetry information from the satellite at predefined time intervals.\u00a0These beacon messages will\u00a0be\u00a0AX.25 packets.\u00a0Any interested amateur radio operators will be welcome to listen to this information. This will be done\u00a0with three tools:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:720,&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Firstly, documentation and tracking telemetry on the future MANTIS website we will have live tracking to show the satellites current position in addition to this we will have instructions on how to track the satellite via IOS or Samsung applications. This will be in addition to communication protocols and communication schedules.<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Secondly, MANTIS will develop a low<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\" data-contrast=\"none\">&#8211;<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\" data-contrast=\"auto\">cost\u00a0mobile ground station\u00a0design\u00a0&amp; schematic\u00a0that is able to communicate with MANTIS\u00a0and other CUBICS\u00a0projects. The development of this\u00a0ground\u00a0station will parallel the development\u00a0on the MANTIS station.\u00a0We will further\u00a0utilize\u00a0the\u00a0expertise\u00a0of the Sydney\u00a0Amateur\u00a0Radio Club and other contacts withing the amateur radio world.\u00a0The goal of this will be for\u00a0enthusiasts\u00a0to be able to\u00a0utilize\u00a0this schematic to develop a mobile ground station to\u00a0join in the MANTIS experiment and\u00a0drive interest in\u00a0amateur radio.<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Lastly to aid in the\u00a0usage of the\u00a0aforementioned tools, DSS has committed to<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">\u00a0create online video tutorials dedicated to helping young enthusiasts and engineers along through processes of amateur radio, team management, conceptual
